Cut a rectangle around the damaged area. In many cases the tape will peel off in one long section. Simply position the tape over the seam press down to fully adhere the tape to the surface. Use a wet cloth or papers towels to wipe off the excess that squeezed out check on it after a while to make sure it remains flat.

If you take a few minutes to skim over it with joint compound the tape disappears completely. Let any chunks of drywall or chips of paint fall to the floor. Simply use dap painters chaulk fill in the crack under the tape with chaulk then use a putty knife to squeeze it flat.
